Partial Obedience to the Word of Wisdom

In my religion we do something called paying tithing. Paying tithing is where we pay 10% of our income to the church. I know, through experience, that blessings come when we pay tithing. I also believe that blessings come from keeping the 10 commandments. I have seen and learned from those who choose to create their own set of “commandments” while ignoring the ten God gave us. I clearly see the difference in the general outcome, especially as those choices ripen over time, between those who follows God’s ten laws and those who don’t.

Paying tithing and following the 10 commandments produces blessings that are fairly easy to spot. But what about the Word of Wisdom? What if we followed ALL of the Word of Wisdom? Not just refraining from drinking alcoholic beverages, coffee or doing drugs - but by doing the REST of the Word of Wisdom as well - more specifically in relation to the food we eat? What magnificent, yet subtle, blessings will we see there? And how much more visible will these blessings – these protections – become as time goes on and the world becomes more bleak?

Where Are We Headed?

It's estimated that by 2025, 49% of American's will have a chronic illness. This percentage only includes medical diagnosed chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. What about Lyme disease, Lupus, Hashimoto’s, Fibromyalgia, CFS, etc.? If those plague-like chronic illnesses were also included in the aforementioned percentage, what would that bring the percentage of Americans suffering with chronic illnesses by 2025 up to? 75%? 80%? Could it be that 10 or less years from now, nearly everyone will be suffering with some type of chronic illness? Statistics sure say so.

Could it be possible that the Word of Wisdom, when fully obeyed, similar to the beautiful and undeniable blessings that come when we fully pay our tithing or when we fully obey the commandments, will bless and protect us in more ways that we realize - especially as the world around us unravels and health, as a whole, deteriorates?

Is a Partial Effort Enough?

What if we paid our tithing only in part? What if we followed only half of the commandments? How does this affect the blessings we receive? Are there blessings we're missing out on by only partially following the Word of Wisdom? When we follow a commandment, in part, the Lord does not, and cannot, bless us in full.

The Lord needs a Zion people who fully follow the Word of Wisdom so we can, more fully, be the people the Lord needs us to be especially as we prepare the world for His coming.
